It came as no surprise to me that adults aged 55 and older watch 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours of TV a day, making TV shows and movies the most popular form of entertainment for the baby boomer generation. However, what surprised me was how much our favorite genre reveals about who we truly are.
For instance, are horror movies your favorite? Horror is among the most studied genres in psychology, so there are a lot of studies on those who like movies, such as Get Out, The Shining, and Saw. Horror fans tend to be more neurotic, less agreeable, and less extroverted, Usually, horror fans are more anxious and less outgoing. In addition, horror fans tend to be high sensation seekers with lower empathy. They are less bothered by scenes of violence because they don’t identify with the on-screen victims.
I like murder mysteries, which fall under the heading of drama. People who like drama tend to be extroverted, analytical, intuitive, love puzzles and solving mysteries. They are usually likable people who are open to a variety of ideas. They watch movies, not just for pleasure but to understand others and how they think. They seldom watch the same movie twice.
It is fascinating how living out my last best bite seems to align with my taste in movies.
Just for fun, I would love to know what your favorite movie genre is and if you think it comes in line with your personality. Not sure? Check out what your favorite movies say about your personality and mindset.
