When we age with an attitude, it is not our age that defines us, it’s our attitude. Reaching a certain age doesn’t mean we become invisible and sit around watching TV all day. Chronologically speaking, age is just a number, and you can’t change that. But, what you can change is your mindset (Romans 12:2). SuperLifers recognize there is more of the world and of themselves that they can explore. And they do just that.
Let me introduce Charles. Charles is the first in the series of blogs that I will be doing on what I call “SuperLifers”. About 2 years ago as I was walking into Planet Fitness I noticed Charles on a stair stepper. I thought to myself that ole boy is ripped (I can say “ole boy” because I am one). About 30 minutes later, as I was walking toward the free weights I noticed that he was still going at it hard on the stepper.
Over the past couple of years, I have learned two things about Charles, he is an upper and he has an age attitude. Here is what I mean. Charles is 78 years old. Before he retired he was Vice President at Saint Louis University, Georgia Tech, and the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has visited over 50 foreign countries. Charles is still a consultant to several smaller schools. He no longer runs but does workouts six days a week… gym in the mornings and swims laps three afternoons. Last week Charles was hiking in the Beartooth Mountains. He and a couple of his friends hiked with 28 lb. backpacks to 10,400’, and camped for six days where he caught 7 fish. The total trip with scouting was about 20 miles. Check out the great pics of Beartooth Mountain below.
And this is my favorite comment. When I asked Charles if he was married he smiled and said, “Barbara and I have been married 49 years, she is a big reason I can do what I do."
Like I said eariery, we can’t change the fact that we age, but we can change how well we age. I think Charles inspires all of us to live life to the fullest and enjoy our Last Best Bite.
